Uses of Microorganisms Discussion

Question Description

I’m working on a nursing discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

In this week’s lecture, I mentioned that microorganisms are used for a variety of different things. For this week’s discussion I want you to talk about at least one thing that microorganisms are used for and how. Discuss the specific organism that is used and how it works (you do not have to go into crazy detail). You may need to research a little on the internet to find some other examples, but please put your research into your own words. *For example, in class I mentioned that microorganisms are used to give flavor to bleu cheese. This is specifically from a mold (or mould) called Penicillium, more specifically Penicillium roqueforti. This Penicillium roqueforti is inoculated into a mixture of milk, salt, sugar and then sits for a few days at a controlled temperature. Then more milk, sugar, and salt is added and it will continue to sit for one or two more days. The sitting process allows the mold to actually take spread, the same way mold would grow on something going bad in your refrigerator. The difference is that this mold is safe to eat. This is one of a couple methods used to create bleu cheese but that method gives bleu cheese it’s wonderful flavor! 🙂
