Question Description
Im trying to learn for my Dietetics class and Im stuck. Can you help?
Emily has recently had peripheral access placed to receive parenteral nutrition. You calculate
her needs as the following:
o Kcals: 1,300 kcals
o Fluid: 1,300 ml
o Protein: 54-81 g
o Lipids: 260-390 kcals from lipids
Complete calculations below (show all work)
1. Select appropriate lipid solution to meet range of lipid needs stated above (state the % and
volume of your selected lipid solution and how many kcals it provides)
2. Calculate kcals remaining to be provided by amino acids and dextrose solutions
3. Using an 8AA/D50W solution, determine amount of mL needed to meet calorie needs
stated in #2
4. Does the daily volume of AA solution determined from #3 meet Emilys range of protein
needs?
5. Determine total fluids provided by the lipid, amino acid, and dextrose solutions youll be
infusing
6. Are Emilys fluid needs met based on your calculations on #5? If not, how will you meet
them? If they are being exceeded, how would you alter the solution youre currently
providing?
